Let’s talk about something super important – choosing the right car seat for your little one. With so many options out there, it can be overwhelming, but don't worry, I've got you covered.
Choosing the right products for you and your baby can be overwhelming. With so many brands, different types of products and prices, it can be confusing trying to decide what is right for you. Many people assume that products made for babies must be safe. This is not always the case, so it is important to understand what a safe product is and what to look for when shopping for your baby.
The Australian Standard for child restraints is considered the most stringent in the world. All new child restraints in Australia meet the current standard. You can be sure by checking yours carries the joint Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1754 label
Let's get started!
Can I use a car seat that is from overseas?
All child restraints used in Australia must comply with current Australian standards which includes the use of a rear strap to an anchor point. Australian child restraint standards are some of the most stringent in the world and unless the overseas products are approved to these standards they cannot legally be used in Australia.
Rear-Facing for as Long as Possible
First things first, it's recommended to keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible. This is the safest option and best practice. Many car seats, like those from InfaSecure, offer extended rear-facing capabilities. This means your child can stay in the rear-facing position until they reach the height marker on the seat. I love the InfaSecure Grandeur Go Car Seat which is suitable from birth - 8 years of age and includes extended rearward facing up to 30 months of age. Another great option is the InfaSecure Attain Premium Child Restraint which is suitable from birth to 4 years old and also includes extended rearward facing for up to a 30-month-old child
Consider Your Circumstances
Every family is different, and so are their needs. When choosing a car seat, think about your car size, budget, and whether you plan to expand your family. For example, if you're planning to have three kids under three years old, you'll need a slim car seat to fit three across the back seat.
One of my favourite slim seats is;
The InfaSecure Quattro Go Car Seat
is a great option for this scenario. It has an incredibly narrow design at 42cm, suitable for smaller vehicles and three-across seating. It also offers extended rear-facing up to 30 months. Plus, it has 9 recline positions so you baby will be both safe and comfy in this versatile and compact car seat.
Another favourite is;
The InfaSecure Grandeur Go Car Seat
Now, let's talk about the InfaSecure Grandeur Go. This car seat is a fantastic option for parents looking for a long-term solution. The InfaSecure Grandeur Go is designed to be the only car seat you'll ever need, accommodating your child from birth up to 8 years old. It offers extended rear-facing and forward-facing with a harness up to a large 8-year-old.
The InfaSecure Grandeur Go Car Seat is incredibly compact, making it one of the narrowest car seats in its category. It has covers that are cool, breathable, and machine-washable. I remember when I first saw the Grandeur Go, I was so impressed by how it combined safety, comfort, and convenience. Just be sure to check if it fits in your car as it’s slightly longer in length than some others on the market.
To Capsule or Not to Capsule?
Ah, the age-old debate – should you get a capsule? Capsules can be super convenient especially if the following applies to you:
If you decide to go for a capsule, check out the InfaSecure Cocoon Go or the InfaSecure Adapt More. On all capsules and car seats in Australia a Top Tether is a legal requirement that is designed to be placed on and off the capsule each time you get in and the car. This can become annoying very quickly. On the InfaSecure Adapt more and InfaSecure Cocoon Go capsule they have created this clever design to avoid the misuse of Top Tether's. They have attached the tether to the base meaning once the seat is installed the tether will not need to be removed at all. I love how easy it is to use.
Make sure your infant seat fits well with your pram. You usually need to purchase the additional adapters separately that are made specifically for your type of infant seat and pram combination. If you opt out of getting a capsule, there might be a handful of times in the first year when you wish you had one. But if your little one outgrows the capsule early (which is often the case as they also get too heavy to carry), you'll end up buying a rearward-facing car seat anyway.
It is also important to note that babies shouldn't stay in a capsule for more than two hours at a time. Long-term use can affect their posture and cause discomfort.
InfaSecure have a large range to meet all different life circumstances so feel free to browse the range on babaloo's website.
